With the end of another successful Snow Festival, the coldness of winter has peaked here in Susukino, Sapporo. Every day, we are vigorously fighting the snowy weather to keep the roads outside our hotel clean and safe for our valued guests. This time we would like to introduce a winter specialty that will heat up your body and fight off the cold: mulled wine.
The name mulled wine comes from the German word ‘Gluhwein’ which roughly translate as glowing-wine from the temperature at which the wine is boiled. It is a wine which uses various spices which pleasantly warm up your body when you drink it. The origin of mulled wine is very old and dates back to the ancient roman period. Throughout that time, saffron and honey were boiled down together and unlike the present day, it was drank cold. Since the history of wine itself has existed around 7000 years, mulled wine too is a historic drink.
In Sapporo, you can enjoy mulled wine at the very fashionable café, FAbULOUS, so warm your body with this tasteful wine during sightseeing and enjoy Sapporo in the winter!
