This year, the snow is melting faster than usual and the days are getting warmer; you can really feel the arrival of spring! In today’s post, we would like to introduce you to a restaurant called ‘Tokachi Butadon Ippin’ (pork rice bowl). Although Hokkaido cuisine is known for lamb and mutton dishes, this restaurant is great for those who prefer other types of meat, in particular pork.
This restaurant is owned by a famous Hokkaido meat sauce producer: the Sorachi Company. Sorachi also produce the sauce for the Tokachi pork rice bowl, which is a bestselling product in Japan, no wonder the restaurant is so popular! The piece of pork lion is marinated in sauce and grilled by hand over low temperature, they then marinate it and grill it again so that the sauce soaks into the juicy meat. It is also worth mentioning that the meat is grilled using only the best Bincho-tan charcoal (made from Ubame oak wood) to avoid spoiling the natural flavour of the meat and sauce. The grilled pork overflows the bowl and smells fantastic.
Hokkaido ingredients are uniquely delicious and because Sorachi wants their guests to experience these delicious flavours, they use pork and rice sourced in Hokkaido.
Tokachi Butadon Ippin is located in Stella Place (Sapporo Station 6F). There is usually a 30 minute queue but it is well worth the wait!
