2018 Sapporo Festival
Hello again everyone!
Around this time every year, the season of the Hokkaido Shrine Festival otherwise known as the Sapporo Festival takes place around the city. The festival has been held for over 100 years, and this year will take place throughout the three days of June 14, 15 and 16.
Among the events taking place over the course of three days, the main event will be held on June 16, the third day and final day. More than 1000 local Sapporo citizens dressed in the clothes and appearance of the Japanese Heian Period (794AD-1185AD) will walk around the streets of Sapporo City hoisting on their shoulders a beautiful shrine paying respects to the god of Hokkaido Shrine.
They will depart Hokkaido Shrine at 09:00, heading towards the east.
They will arrive at Parco near Mitsukoshi Department Store (15 minutes from our hotel) at around 14:00.
They will then leave again at 15:30 before returning to the Hokkaido Shrine at 17:00.
There will also be many festival stalls dotted around Nakajima Park (within walking distance of our hotel) which will open from 6/14 (Thu) to 6/16 (Sat). The opening hours are from 10: 00 until 22: 00. A lot of stalls and shops are lined up as well as a haunted house!
Please enjoy a nice stroll while you enjoy the atmosphere of the city during these three days!
