In early winter, this event colors the streets of Sapporo: Sapporo Illumination
As the temperature gradually lowers, you can feel that winter is coming.
Therefore, we would like to introduce the event where Sapporo changes colors with 830 thousand lightbulbs, “Sapporo Illumination”.
This is the 37th year of the first-ever illumination event to be held in Japan. As for annual winter events in Sapporo, this one is well-regarded amongst Sapporo citizens.
In the center of Odori Park, where the Lilacs first bloom in the spring, is the “Light of the Arts”, with the theme of nature and space coloring the local area. In the trees lining Ekimaedori and Minami 1 Jyo, lightbulbs decorate and illuminate the center district with dazzling lights! Our recommendation is to go to the observation deck of the Sapporo TV Tower and get a nice view of it all. Looking at the vivid colors as the snow falls is truly fantastic!
In addition, until December 24th, the “Munich Christmas City in Sapporo” will be held along Odor Park’s second block, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the alliance between the sister-city of Munich and Sapporo, which was formed in 2002. Many stalls are lined up offering hot wine and German cooking. There, you can feel the spirit of a German Christmas!
The next time you come to Sapporo, please enjoy seeing the city change its colors with “Sapporo Illumination.”
